Importante contribución para el conocimiento de la España imperial. Publicación bilingüe (en español y portugués) de una relación manuscrita inédita portuguesa, anónima, de un testigo de vista, que relata el viaje que realizó la emperatriz Isabel de Portugal en 1526 desde Almeirim (Portugal) hasta Sevilla (España), y su entrada y recepción solemne en esa ciudad el 3 de marzo de 1526 para celebrar su boda con el emperador Carlos V. Asimismo, se da cuenta de la entrada y recepción en Sevilla del emperador Carlos V una semana después y de cómo se produjo la ceremonia nupcial. Se aporta una traducción al español y su edición con abundantes notas, una edición en el portugués original y un estudio acompañado de ilustraciones. Esta relación ofrece información muy rica y no recogida en otras fuentes del viaje de la emperatriz, de los arcos efímeros erigidos para la entrada imperial en Sevilla, del ceremonial y la etiqueta en la primera mitad del siglo XVI y de multitud de detalles de interés para comprender mejor ese evento de relevancia internacional y de consecuencias históricas trascendentales.

An important contribution to our understanding of imperial Spain. A bilingual publication (in Spanish and Portuguese) of an unpublished, anonymous Portuguese manuscript account by an eyewitness, recounting the journey undertaken by Empress Isabel of Portugal in 1526 from Almeirim (Portugal) to Seville (Spain), and her entry and solemn reception in that city on 3 March 1526 to celebrate her marriage to Emperor Charles V. It also recounts Emperor Charles V’s entry and reception in Seville a week later and describes how the wedding ceremony took place. The volume includes a Spanish translation with extensive notes, an edition in the original Portuguese, and a study accompanied by illustrations. This account offers a wealth of information not found in other sources regarding the Empress’s journey, the temporary arches erected for the imperial entry into Seville, the ceremonial and etiquette of the first half of the 16th century, and multitude of details of interest for a better understanding of this event of international significance and far-reaching historical consequences.
