This contribution provides a compilation of soil and freshwater nematode species reported during the last 125 years (1883-2008) from Romania. A total of 386 species belonging to 165 genera and 67 families provisionally form the Romanian nematode fauna. Results from this overview are briefly discussed. It is underlined that this work is just a first step for a nematode species inventory in Romania.
